Baptism

What is expected from the Parents?

Parents must be registered members of Holy Trinity Parish or have permission from their home parish pastor and the pastor of Holy Trinity to have the child baptized.

Parents are expected to fully participate in the life of the parish including regular attendance at Eucharist, tithing of time and treasure to the parish and engaging in actively supporting the Mission Statement of the Parish.

Parents are expected to enroll their child in the parish's religious education program (if the child is not enrolled in a Catholic school) and complete the Sacraments of Initiation (First Eucharist and Confirmation) at the appropriate times.

Parents are expected to meet with the Pastor in the week prior to the baptism.

Baptisms are tentative until this happens.

What is required before the Baptism?

†  Parents must fill out and return the Baptismal Registration Form with a voluntary $20 donation to help defray processing expenses.

Parents must schedule a meeting with the Religious Education Formation for an interview at least four weeks prior to the Presentation Mass, or in some cases, the Baptism of the Child.

The Catholic Diocese mandates both parents attend three baptismal preparation sessions.  Godparents must attend the third session with the parents.  Godparents' forms must be secured in the parish office two weeks prior to baptism.

How long is the preparation process?

Baptism Preparation Classes are held quarterly.

  Week 1:  Presentation of Family

Week 1, 2, 3:  Attend parent session in the

parish office meeting room according to the calendar.

Week 4:  Baptism of the child

(on the 4th Sunday of the Month).

Who may be Godparents?

Only one godparent is required for baptism and that person must be an active, practicing and fully initiated member of the Catholic Church, and at least 15 years of age.

Traditionally, we tend to invite two people to be godparents, one male and one female. In certain cases, a Christian person may act as a Christian witness, but always with one Catholic Godparent.

If it is difficult for you to find a suitable sponsor for your child, the parish will provide one for you.

We also ask that the Godparent(s) provide a letter of recommendation from the Pastor of their parish to attest to their fitness as Catholic Godparents.

Godparents have two

important functions:

They represent the larger church community. Therefore, they are obliged to protect this newest member by guiding, advising, and nurturing the child as he or she progresses in the understanding of faith.

They pledge to continually support the parents so that they can witness and successfully train the child in the life and faith of the Church. As such, they are listed on the Baptismal Certificate.

Who may be a Christian Witness to the Baptism?

  Non-Confirmed Catholics but practicing.

Non-Catholics yet Christian members of other recognized Christian Churches.

A person who is not a baptized Christian may serve as a formal witness to the baptism of your child. Godparents or Witness must be members of the Christian Faith Community.
