The History of Holy Trinity Church

In 1938 Father Bruno Bens, SS. CC., the provincial superior of the Sacred Hearts Fathers, acquired 23 acres of land by purchasing several adjacent lots along Kalanianaole Highway opposite Kuliouou Valley.  On this newly purchased land, a small simple church was built.

The vicar delegate, Reverend Victorinus Claesner, SS. CC., in the absence of Bishop Stephen Alencastre, blessed the new Blessed Trinity Chapel of Kuliouou on January 8, 1939.

Until 1944 it was attached to St. Patrick's Church in Kaimuki as a mission station, when, with the appointment of Father James Beynes, SS. CC., Holy Trinity became an independent parish.

Father Henry Boeynaems, SS. CC. became pastor in 1956 and immediately began planning a new church. On December 21, 1958 Bishop James J. Sweeney blessed this second Holy Trinity Church and offered the first mass.

Many great changes have since taken place to make our church what it is today.

The most noticeable change comes in the form of a beautiful stained glass picture window above the tabernacle in the front of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

The picture is that of Nature, God’s first creation.  It is a peaceful scene representative of these Hawaiian Islands.

You too can be a part of our church's history by giving of your time, talent, and treasure to help fulfill God's promises.
