The History of the Oratory in Hawaii..

A Long Way From Rome to Hawaii. St. Philip Neri renewed the church through laity. He began his ministry in Rome as a hermit with a street ministry. This grew into a movement of laity which met at an Oratory.

We have dedicated the Oratory in Hawaii to this mission: to be an open contemplative community offering prayer and hospitality to anyone seeking God.

The First Ministry of the Oratory in Hawaii is Prayer - We gather for meditation with psalms and readings twice a day. We celebrate the Eucharist daily. Together we are called to the silence of love in the presence of God, the Father of all.

The Oratory in Hawaii is Where Friends Gather and the Word of God Comes Alive - There is a hunger today for contact with contemplative prayer and places that provide for it. The Orator in Hawaii wants to return this gift of prayer which belonged to St. Philip.
