    SPORTING NEWS

If there was one thing our class was really good at - it definitely was sports!  From Football to Baseball to Basketball and Softball - we did it all and we always made sure the opponent knew who was DA BESTEST!

Now, even as we have grown older, the sporting instinct is still alive and well!  Join us as we partake in many great sporting events against other graduating classes!  Bring the whole family for a time of great fun and good sportsmanship!  Dress in our Class Logowear with such great items as Caps, T-Shirts, Tank Tops and more from our CLASS GIFT SHOP.  Click on any one of the items to the right to check out these and other logo items.

If you got a Sports Event you want the class to partake in, contact any one of your Class Representatives and put something together that can make for a great time.

We look forward to seeing you at these events!  Bookmark this page for more events to come soon!

4th Annual Fallen Brothers Memorial Golf Tournament
    Friday: 7/23/10

Since our graduation, the Class of '87 has suffered the loss of 5 of its class mates through the years: Joey Barros (1990), Matthew K. Meier (09/25/96) whom passed away of  Mediastinal Germ Cell Tumors (Cancer), Stuart J. Murakami (11/12/02), Randy A. Peters (2/3/08) whom passed away of Sleep Apnea, and most recently Bernard Sean Koahou (4/1/08) whom passed away of Kidney Cancer.

In their memory, the SLHS87 Annual Fallen Brothers Memorial Golf Tournament was created with a goal to be able to provide an eligible St. Louis High School student with finances they may need to further their education.

The 4th Annual Fallen Brothers Memorial Golf Tournament is tentatively set for Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Waikele Golf Club with registration at 11:30 a.m., and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.

The fee is $120 per player or save $10 per player with a team of 4 (you only pay $440 for a team of 4 people).  Monies are due by July 10th.  Please plan to come and support this great class event!

For more information or to register your team, please call Antone (Tony) Hall at (808) 499-5646 or reach him via email

Hana Hou!  Let's Do It Again!

It's time to bring our "A Game" one more time as we show the rest who's boss when the SLAA hosts their 24th Annual Softball Tournament!  Like in the years past, the SLHS Class of ’87 Sports Committee is looking for players, drinkers or just guys to hang out on this President's Day weekend - and EVERY President's Day weekend EVERY year! -  for the annual SLAA Alumni Softball Tournament.

As always, it will be a great fun for the whole family - and a blast showing everyone who's still the reining champs!  See the EVENTS section for more details.

Class Project:  Rebuild the Weight Room!
    Ongoing

We can do this, Gang!

The SLHS Class of ’87 Sports Committee has
pledged to donate $1000 - $2000 dollars to the St. Louis Athletic Department towards renovating the weight room.  Craig Watase, Class of 1980, is spearheading this project.  If each classmate donates $10 - $20 we can reach our goal. Classmates can mail their donations to the St. Louis School with their check made out to “St. Louis School – Athletic Department”, and make sure to note that the donation comes from the Class of 1987.  Donations can also be given to Tony Hall or Keith Haina whom will gather the donations and present them to the school.

All donations are tax deductible and every dollar counts, so please be generous.  You can also click on the button to the right to donate.

This is a great Class Project for us to tackle, and for our efforts, we will have a plaque in the weight room thanking the Class of ’87 once we accomplish our donation goal.  We would like to see that plaque read “Class of ’87 – Where the Tradition Started”.  Please Donate Today!

Champs Yet Again!

Aloha Crusaders!

Just a little note to first of all I like to say a BIG MAHALO to a BIG MAN for a BIG DONATION: Keone Mo has given me a $250 check to pay for the entrance fee!  Thanks Mo!

Like always it was a fun time of laughter & more laughter with all our boys out there.  We were 3 & 2!  It was a good turnout this year.  Like to thank the men for participating and help defer the cost of shirts.  All extra $$$ went to our class account. I think with all the beer we drank we could have recycled the bottles and cans to pay for it.

We have 2-XL, 3-XX & 4-XXX shirts left over.  The shirts are $10 each, so if anybody wants to buy let me know and we can set it up.  The MVP went to Keith Haina:  he won a $300 gas grill that even had a icebox inside, and he later donated to Keone MO.

Until next one

ALOHAS.

    22nd Annual SLAA Softball Tournament
    Saturday: 2/14/09

Champs Again!

The SLHS Class of ’87 Sports Committee send out a big MAHALO to everyone who came out to join us to make the 22nd Annual SLAA Softball Tournament a HUGE success!

From Tony Hall: “I just want to say MAHALO to the fellas that showed up this year to the softball tournament.  It was a very successful tournament for the class of ’87 - we went 4-0 for the day beating ’79,’77, ’82, ‘84 and ‘74.  I'm still waiting on the overall results but I think it's safe to say we did it like in high school: on top baby!  I like to announce this year’s MVP and CO-MVP) is William Huffen and Colin Otenbriet.  Akoni Shannon came in a close second.   Again big up's to Kevin Kea for sponsoring us. We look forward to all of you coming out next year ‘cause we have to defend our title as “CHAMPIONS".  Mahalo Bruddahs for making this a fun weekend! I'll be keeping you all informed of any more activities.  Also please check class website too.”

From Keone Morreira:  “On behalf of Manly and me, we would like to thank all of you for participating and donating to the golf tourney for the past two years. We hope to see you again in July for the 3rd Annual Fallen Brothers Memorial Golf. Thanks to you all for the support of our Fallen Brothers. By getting 18 to 20 teams of four, that will be another $2500 that can be donated to the St. Louis Education Foundation for scholarships.  Matt Meier’s has been going on for a couple of years and the one for Joey Barros and our other Fallen Brothers is heading on its way this year with generous amounts in the fund for starters.  A big Mahalo to all of you!”

Class of ’87 participants were Darin Akiona, Jason Agua, Colin Otenbriet, Kui Lum, Glenn Charles, William Huffen, Michael Brack, Keith Haina, Conan Donahue, Keone Mo, Deen Paikai, Akoni Shannon, and Tony Hall, along with a guest appearance from Michael Pedro.  We also had some help from Beau Gilland (‘89) and Laanui Correa (’98).

Mahalo to everyone for bring grinds, beverages, tents and especially our Grill.  Check out the Slide Show of the pictures that were taken at the event – we hope you all enjoyed it and we look forward to another big turnout next year ~ and every year! ~ over the President’s Day Weekend!
